Tip: Research a few shops before you go – the number of shops and floors (and floors) of antiques can get overwhelming fast.
The first weekend of each month, old warehouses in the Kansas City West Bottoms District open their doors, attracting antique collectors and thrift shoppers from all over the city and surrounding areas.
#41 – Joe’s Kansas City BBQ

Features: Gas station, convenience store, tasty BBQ.
Good for: Locals, tourists and meat lovers.
Tip: Head to Joe’s about 30+ minutes before you want to eat. The line is almost always out the door.
Joe’s is a Kansas City staple. It’s a classic, like Gates and Arthur Bryant’s. Everyone knows of it, and almost everyone loves it. Famously located in a gas station, Joe’s Kansas City BBQ has won numerous accolades, including America’s Best BBQ Restaurant in 2017.
#40 – Berkley Riverfront Park

Good for: Families, runners, dog walkers.
Amenities: Picnic tables, running trail, volleyball courts.
Tip: Ride Kansas City B-Cycles along the trail.
The Berkley Riverfront Park is a small park along the Missouri River with running trails, sand volleyball courts, picnic tables and more. Just north of downtown Kansas City, the park is easy to get to with a Kansas City Streetcar stop and Kansas City B-Cycle racks close.
#38 – National Museum of Toys and Miniatures

Good for: Adults, older children.
The Museum of Toys and Miniatures is an unexpectedly interesting Kansas City activity. Despite the rooms and rooms of artifacts, the well-curated museum is never overwhelming. Its vast collection old toys, intricate miniatures and realistic dollhouses offers something appealing to everyone.
#37 – McLain’s Bakery

Good for: Coffee shop connoisseurs, sweets lovers.
Tip: If you are particular about your pastries, show up early. They sell the good stuff fast.
McLain’s Bakery has been a Kansas City staple since 1945. Satisfy your sweet tooth with delicious cookies, cakes and pastries, or stop in for a savory breakfast sandwich. McLain’s has two locations, a small shop in Brookside and a market in Overland Park.
