Betty Rae’s is an ice cream shop in Kansas City, Missouri that creates unique, tasty ice cream concoctions. With one location in Waldo, a traveling ice cream truck and a new location coming, Kansas City cannot get enough.
About Betty Rae’s Ice Cream
Betty Rae’s started with two college kids working at a local ice cream shop in Columbia, Missouri. It was in the midst of days of scooping ice cream that David and Mary began their relationship. Together, they created Lavender Honey, a flavor that would become a crowd favorite.
After moving to Kansas City, they started Betty Rae’s, naming the store after David’s grandmother. In just a few years, they’ve had great success, earning local and national recognition for their abstract creations.
Perhaps one of their most popular projects was a collaboration with Joe’s Kansas City. In 2017, the two businesses joined up to make Joe’s KC Burnt Ends & Sauce. The BBQ-inspired ice cream had caramel made from Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que’s original sauce and candied burnt ends.
What to Get at Betty Rae’s
There are SO many delicious flavors. This spring, they had 24 flavors of ice cream. Some of the most interesting:
- Honey Cornbread
- Jasmine Green Tea
- Cereal Milk
- Goat cheese, Apricots and Candied Walnuts
- Lavender Honey
- Plum and Dark Chocolate
- Brown Butter Toasted Pecans
- Root Beer
- Thou Mayest Coffee
Q and I both got two scoops and all four types of ice cream were amazing. We tried Goat cheese, Apricots and Candied Walnuts, Lavender Honey, Smores and Crème Brulee Caramel.
While they’re known for their funky flavors, Betty Rae’s Ice Cream has quite the extensive menu, including floats, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches and boozy shakes and floats. I have a feeling it’s all delicious.
Betty Rae’s Ice Cream is expanding to the River Market, so you can experience their delicious treats there, too. xx, Libbie.
