#76 – River Market Antiques
115 W 5th St, Kansas City, MO 64105
Cost: $ – $$$
Good for: Finding hidden treasures, killing a few hours exploring
Tip: Skip the basement unless you’re looking for vintage clothing.
River Market Antiques is a four-story antique mall filled to the brim with furniture, clothing, trinkets and more. Located in the River Market, the antique shop has a massive painting of Lewis and Clark on the side of the building, paying homage to the expedition, just like Kaw Point.
About River Market Antiques
Unlike a lot of the antique shops in the West Bottoms that are open once a month, River Market Antiques is open seven days a week.
The shop opened in 1994 and has become a beloved staple to the Kansas City antique scene over the past decade.
Like many antique stores, there are vendor booths throughout the store, and some are great and some are not. In the basement, you’ll find racks and racks of vintage clothing, handbags and shoes. The other three floors are a mix of everything you can images – records, cookie jars, furniture, clocks, signs, planters, canisters, paintings, lighting, etc etc etc.
The vendors and constantly restocking and running specials, so it can be explored again and again.
Where else to Explore in the River Market
River Market Antiques is located in the River Market – one of my favorite areas in the city. Just north of Downtown Kansas City, the River Market is easy to explore thanks to the streetcar and Kansas City B-cycles.
What to do:
- Il Lazzarone – Neopolitan style pizza.
- Quay Coffee – Local coffee shop and hang out.
- City Market – Farmer’s market, diverse grocery stores and shops
- Opera House – Eclectic coffee shop and restaurant
- Berkley Riverfront Park – Park with walking paths
- Arabia Steamboat Museum – Historical museum
After a morning at the City Market or lunch at Il Lazzarone, I love to stop by River Market Antiques. I’ve been there dozens of times and it never grows old. The massive store always has a new treasure to find. xx, Libbie.
