This Kansas City staple has held the title of the Best Burger in KC for 32 years, and there just might be something to it. Westport Flea Market gets their beef from from longtime Kansas City butcher, McGonigle’s Market.
They have two burgers – the regular Flea Market burger (10 oz patty) or the Mini Market (5.5 oz patty). I had the loaded Mini Market with sautéed ‘shrooms and onions, cheese and bacon, and it did not disappoint.
Naturally, The Flea also has a burger challenge. Eat the Flea Market Burger x 5 (50 oz of beef, lol what) and 2 pounds of curly fries in 30 minutes, and you get it free, plus a t-shirt and your picture on the wall.
Other dishes that looked tasty:
- Titanic Nachos
- Joe Joe’s Famous Chicken Panini
- Meatball Grinder
- Patty Melt
This place is old school. Waitresses will come to your table to get your drink order, but after that, you’re on your own. Head to the bar to place your order and listen for your name to be called from the kitchen window when your food is ready. They also only accept cash, which is pain for most people. There is an ATM, but the fees are pretty high, so stop at your bank before you come.
We stuck around for trivia on Thursday night, and it was the best I’ve been to in Kansas City. My team didn’t win (pretty typical), but the DJ was super entertaining and the questions were fun. It’s $5 per person to play, and the cash prizes are awesome (1st place got $120 the night we were there!). They have trivia twice a week at The Flea – Wednesdays at 8pm and Thursdays at 9pm. I can’t wait to make a trip back, but I need to study up on random trivia facts first. xx, Libbie
